The Office of the Special Coordinator for Africa and the Least Developed Countries is currently responsible for undertaking appropriate advocacy work for Africa at the global level; providing substantive servicing on African development to the intergovernmental bodies at United Nations Headquarters (Committee for Programmes and Coordination (CPC), the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly) in their deliberations on Africa, thus facilitating inter-governmental debates and negotiations; acting as the secretariat to the interdepartmental and inter-agency Task Force charged with the follow-up on the recommendations of the Secretary General's 1998 report on the causes of conflict and the promotion of durable peace and sustainable development in Africa; and mobilizing international support, including through promoting South-South cooperation, for the implementation of the New Partnership.
