Considering that a significant proportion of translators and verbatim reporters continue to dictate all or part of their work, and that dictation remains the most efficient inputting method for fairly easy material, the Department of General Assembly Affairs and Conference Services, in recent years, had been monitoring progress made in speech recognition technology, including through inter-agency meetings, such as the Inter-Agency Meeting on Language Arrangements, Documentation and Publications (IAMLADP) and its working group on the improvement of practices in the translation process.
نظرا إلى أن جزءا كبيرا من المترجمين التحريريين ومدوني المحاضر الحرفية لا يزالون يملون جزءا من عملهم أو كله، وأن الإملاء لا يزال الطريقة الأكثر كفاءة لتسجيل المواد التي تتسم بسهولة نسبية، لذا فإن إدارة شؤون الجمعية العامة وخدمات المؤتمرات كانت تعكف طوال السنوات الأخيرة على رصد ما أحرز من تقدم في ميدان تكنولوجيا إملاء النصوص على الحاسوب، بما في ذلك من خلال الاجتماعات المشتركة بين الوكالات كالاجتماع المشترك بين الوكالات المعني بترتيبات اللغات والوثائق والمنشورات والفريق العامل التابع له المعني بتحسين الممارسات في عملية الترجمة التحريرية.
