This is particularly relevant when one considers the large percentage of women who are incarcerated for non-violent crimes such as drug possession or minor fraud.
ويتبين بوضوح من اللمحة العامة المقدمة أعلاه أن سجن النساء اللائي هن أمهات أيضاً يثير مشاكل متعددة ومعقدة: الألم العاطفي والضيق الشخصي لأن أطفالهن يتألمون نتيجة لفصلهم عن أمهاتهم بهذا الأسلوب، ويصح ذلك بصفة خاصة حين يمعن المرء النظر في النسبة المئوية الكبيرة من النساء المسجونات بسبب جرائم غير عنيفة مثل حيازة مخدرات أو عملية نصب صغيرة.
